Health Literacy Webinar

We are delighted to announce that our Health Literacy webinar, the third in our ‘Living well with kidney disease’ series, will be live on 2 December 2021.

The webinar, which is open to all Diaverum patients and their families, aims to prompt the question “Am I health literate?”, and help provide them with the knowledge and tools to help manage a complex disease like chronic kidney disease.

Hosted by Diaverum’s Corporate Nursing Director, Suzanne Pearce, the webinar will feature special guests that include Nicola Thomas, Professor of Kidney Health at London South Bank University, and two of our patients, Oscarine B. Baruhk and Raul Dias.

The main part of the webinar will be followed by a Q&A session, so get ready to have your questions on understanding medicine and health-related issues answered!

Our speakers

Professor of Kidney Health, University South Bank London

Expert with over thirty years experience in clinical practice, education, quality improvement and research. She has a BSc (Hons) in Nursing, a Masters Degree in Education and a Doctorate in Professional Practice from City University London. At LSBU, she lectures Kidney Care to undergraduate and post-graduate students and also teaches research methods to Masters and Doctoral students. Over many years she has undertaken teaching, quality improvement and project work for the NHS, Higher Education and third sector. She has a particular interest in the management of early kidney disease in primary care, especially self-management and shared decision making.

Life coach and author, Diaverum patient

Oscarine has been a renal patient for nearly 30 years - since 1993. Her own personal journey stands as a testament to having never given up, but to continue moving forward no matter what. Diagnosed with renal failure at the age of 17, she has so far had 2 transplants and has been on haemodialysis for the last 10 years following the rejection of her 2nd tranplant. Oscarine is the founder of Barukh Life Coaching where she delights herself in bringing the best out of people. She also holds a Masters degree in Diplomacy. An award-winning author, she made it her life's mission to help people with CKD, and continues to have a tremendous impact on the lives of people who have had the privilege of meeting her. Her optimism is simply contagious.

Retired paediatrician, Diaverum patient

Retired paediatrician in neonatal intensive care and general paediatrics in his 80s. A Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians London, he worked for the National Health Service for 42 years. He was diagnosed with cancer of the right kidney at the age of 53, but because of early diagnosis and surgery, there was no metastasis. A few years after his retirement, his left kidney began to show signs of impairment and reached end stage renal failure two and a half years ago. He then began haemodialysis.

Corporate Nursing Director, Diaverum

In renal nursing since 1993, Suzanne has performed numerous roles in a variety of different situations and positions, working in both the UK and Australia. She re-joined Diaverum in July 2019 and became one of the Corporate Nursing Directors, a role that she thoroughly enjoys. She is pationate about renal care.
